Work & Pick

Interested in getting involved in the Eden Hall (almost certified!) organic student garden? We have just the opportunity for you to volunteer, learn and take home lots of fresh veggies! The gardens at Eden Hall are designed to serve the Chatham community by sharing in the work and harvest of growing organic vegetables.  We hope to have a combination of students, faculty, and staff participate in this communal effort through our Work & Pick program.

We estimate that the garden can provide weekly vegetables for up to 15 gardeners.  This year community members can share a membership and sign up as a pair splitting the weeks. This is a co-op, so everyone must be prepared for bounty or dearth, though we’ll probably have some combination of both.  You do not need prior experience to apply! Gardening sessions will be Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.  We hope to have a shuttle run between the Chatham’s Woodland campus and Eden Hall campus.

Work & Pick guidelines:

  • Commit to 11 out of 14 weeks (generally 2 ½- 3 hours each weekly session). The garden season will be from May 15 through August 17.
  • Commit to working in the garden either one Wednesday evening (6:00 pm-8:30 pm) or one Saturday morning (10:00 am-1:00 pm) per week.  Van will depart from the Woodland Wednesday evenings (~5pm) and early Saturday morning (~9 am).
  • Membership can be shared among two people. In this case the pair will split and arrange coverage for the 14 weeks
